Silk was born in Fredericton (New Brunswick), Canada. She was her father's daughter Peter Silk, who was a professor and Ilkay Silk, a playwright and director who was also renowned as an actress. Anna holds some early memories of attending to play rehearsals. Silk was a part of a variety of commercials while she was young. Silk graduated from St. Thomas University with the Bachelor of Arts degree in 1997. Theatre St. Thomas was engaged in two of the early stage productions that included Seven Menus (1997) and The Kitchen (1999). Silk began her acting career after moving to Toronto, Canada, in November of 1999. She then moved to Los Angeles for the remainder of the decade. Seth Cooperman is her future partner, whom she discovered during her time in Los Angeles at an Actors Workshop in 2007. They were married civilly in December 2009.
